Tilt or Touch? How to Actually Set Up Mobile Racing Controls
Every time we review a racing game the first thing we do is dig into the control settings, because the default is almost never ideal. Tilt steering feels immersive but punishes you on a bumpy bus. Touch buttons are steadier but can cramp your thumbs on a big phone.
Our rule of thumb: if you mostly play sitting still, try tilt and crank the sensitivity down a notch until it stops overcorrecting. If you play on the move, go with on-screen controls and look for a game that lets you reposition the buttons.
Neon Drift Circuit, which we reviewed recently, handles both well and even lets you adjust the dead zone. That's the setting that decides how far you tilt before the car reacts, and getting it right transformed the game for me.
Don't forget to test with your case on. A thick case changes how the phone sits in your hands and can make tilt feel off. Spend five minutes in the practice mode before you judge any racer's controls.
