Why Turn-Based RPGs Just Feel Right on a Phone
There's a reason turn-based RPGs keep thriving on mobile while real-time action games struggle. They forgive interruptions. You can take your turn, lock your phone when your name gets called, and come back without missing a beat.
Touch input also suits them. Tapping a menu to pick an attack is precise in a way that twitchy action controls never quite are on glass. No wrestling with virtual joysticks, no accidental dodges into a wall.
Playing Ember of the Hollow recently reminded me how comfortable this fit is. I got through a full dungeon in small chunks over a day, and the pauses never broke the flow. The scalable UI helped too, since cramped menus are the one thing that can ruin the genre on a phone.
If you've bounced off mobile RPGs because action games felt clumsy, give a turn-based one a go. The pacing matches how we actually use our phones.
